Message from the Chief

Many changes have occurred within the Fire District since the publication of our last newsletter.  Some of these changes were mandated by regulatory agencies, growth, call volume, funding and volunteer staffing.
Over the past few years, Worley Fire District built up a reserve fund to assist with the construction of new facilities, replace aging equipment and provide funds for the hiring of limited full time staffing to assist our volunteer crew.
Last summer, Worley Fire District awarded the bid for the construction of a new fire station to Blew’s Construction. The need for such a facility is becoming more evident as our volunteer staffing continues to decline due to factors such as mandated minimum training requirements, physical limitations, job loss, and demand for services increase. Because of limited funding this project will be completed in phases over a period of time. Total cost of this project is 1.6 million dollars.
Phase #1 started last summer and was completed in the fall of 2008. This phase included site preparation, concrete footings and foundation, septic system, and a water system.
Phase #2 will start as soon as weather permits this spring and will consist of the building’s exterior shell and roof. At the completion of phase #2 this fall, the Fire District will have exhausted its reserve funds and the project will be placed on hold until these funds are once again replenished. Total construction time for this project, which once was estimated to be 6-7 months for completion, will now be measured in years.
Last summer the Worley Fire District consolidated stations #6 and #7, which are located in the Rockford Bay area. All of the apparatus and both volunteer firefighters based out of station #7 were relocated to station #6 to assist the two volunteer firefighters located at that station.
The Worley Fire District has a volunteer recruitment program which has been in place for a number of years. You may have noticed the red recruitment signs in your area; the Worley Fire District is always looking for dedicated persons willing to join our team.

The largest obstacles in the Worley Fire District are education to help prevent fires and preparedness in the event of an emergency.   The 121 square miles of the District has experienced an increased level in both areas over the last year with increased Volunteer training, our fire prevention program at the Worley School, and with the addition of two full time staff.  The apparatus stationed around the District is at its highest state of readiness and reliability. The District now enjoys the benefit of three quick response vehicles equipped with wild land fire suppression equipment as well as a snowplow fitted to one quick response vehicle that keep the five stations functional 24/7 all winter.  In addition these three units serve as rescue units complete with medical gear and EMS First Responders 24/7.

Message from the EMS Division Chief

Hello, I’m Melissa Howard the new Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Chief for the Worley Fire District. After serving as a volunteer for the Worley Fire District for over 21 years I’m very pleased and excited to accept the position as your new EMS Chief at Worley Fire.
With the progression of Worley Fire Districts new fire station, we are also progressing into a more active role for providing Emergency Medical Services. On March 2nd, 2009, the Worley Fire District started to respond on Advanced Life Support (ALS) type calls within the Fire District boundaries, along with Worley Ambulance. This transition has been very smooth.
The Worley Fire District now currently has four certified Ice Rescue trained personnel that have obtained their continuing education hours.
I have obtained a First Responder instructor certificate from the State of Idaho, so that we can continue to provide in-house training to our responders, as well as CPR classes, which Deputy Chief Goodrich and I teach.
The primary goal of the Worley Fire District is to provide professional fire and emergency response to all the residence of our District….to protect lives, property and the environment with care, compassion and dedication to excellence.
This is also why the need for dedicated volunteers is so important, so we can continue to provide the patrons of the Worley Fire District the protection they deserve.
